Sailing the Grenadines

A Cruising Dream Come True

Island Sunset

Sailing the Grenadines will open a whole new cruising experience for you. Absolutely the best way to to see St. Vincent and the Grenadines is by sailing. In fact, some of the best islands to visit are accessible only by boat. Sure, you can have a fine vacation staying on Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Petit St. Vincent, or St. Vincent itself, but the real charm of this island chain can only be discovered by boat.

Many people consider the Grenadines sailing to be some of the best cruising in the Caribbean. Each of the islands is but a short hop from the next one, and each has something special to offer. It is possible to have a leisurely start and still reach your next destination in good light with plenty of time to relax and enjoy yourself. On the other hand, going from Bequia to Union is a solid four hour trip. The prevailing wind is a steady trade wind from the east, thus allowing long tacks.

Unless you own a boat, you will probably want to charter a boat. Fortunately, there are a number of good charter companies from which to choose as well as yachts that are chartered by their owners. Click here to learn more about Chartering

What we like best is that the Grenadines are not crowded. Getting here is just enough of a challenge that the faint of heart opt for the Virgins. Once here, there is always room in any anchorage. During the day, you will usually see a few boats in the distance, but we have never had a traffic problem.

Recently ABC morning news did a short segment about the Grenadines. To watch the clip, click on ABC but don't forget to come back.
